Fear limits our creativity or our willingness to try new things, stifling our desire to give more than the minimum effort required. So how can we create a safe culture at work? Start with sharing your own personal story of having fear at work. Share with your team how you’re imperfect, prone to fear, just like them. Share a time where you screwed up and had to admit it. Show your humanity. Normalize the reality that fear is present in all of our lives. Then share how you want this work environment to be free from fear.
The best time to have one of these conversations is during your daily team huddle, so try it out. Help them connect the dots as to how their own fears can impact their own performance and the customer experience.
